DAAD Scholarship for Msc Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University in Germany 2020
TU Dortmund University in Germany invites applications for the DAAD Scholarship for MSc Spatial Planning in 2020.
The SPRING programme combines teaching in development theories and strategies, planning concepts and methods, and implementation and monitoring tools with practice-orientated field studies aimed at elaborating regional development plans and programmes in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The programme content is oriented by the specific socio-economic problems in the developing world.
SPRING places its emphasis on development management at an intermediate level (e.g. district) between macro-regional and community-based planning. Development planning is seen as a problem-oriented management tool with the following objective:
- to identify development problems, trends, resources, constraints and potentials;
- to formulate development objectives, policies and strategies;
to design plans and programmes;
to assess environmental impacts of plans and programmes; - to organise target group participation and decision-making processes;
- to apply instruments for programme implementation and management and
- to evaluate and monitor plans and programmes.
Worth of Award
- The scholarship recipients will be granted a full waiver of the tuition and participation fee.
- In addition, the DAAD will pay the scholarship recipients a monthly stipend of EUR 850.
- As a rule, the scholarship also includes certain payments towards health, accident, and liability insurance coverage in Germany.
- Furthermore, the DAAD will generally pay an appropriate travel allowance, unless these costs are covered by the home country or by another funding source.
- The DAAD will also pay a study and research allowance. Last but not least, the scholarship covers a mandatory two-month German course before the start of the program.
Eligibility
- A Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a field related to Regional or Urban Planning with grades significantly above average
- A high standard of proficiency in written and spoken English: TOEFL (550 points paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based), IELTS (6,0) or MELAB (76)
- Two years of professional practice is desirable and
- A strong commitment to further work in regional development planning
- For applicants for a DAAD scholarship: You should not have graduated from university more than 6 years ago. When applying, please tick the third programme (“Study scholarship for a postgraduate course with relevance to developing countries”).
How to Apply
- All applications must be submitted in English.
- The admission committee only accepts applications as hardcopies via regular mail (not via E-Mail!).
- All translations and notarizations of documents must be made by a certified translator or notary. For translations, a notarized copy of the original document must be attached to the official translation.

- A completed and signed DAAD application form (if the DAAD scholarship is desired)
- A typed Curriculum Vitae (Please use the Europass-Format)
- Officially notarized copy of university certificate
- University issued official transcript of courses and grades (or notarized copies) including an explanation of grades
- Two relevant letters of recommendation in original (professional and academic)
- Original or officially notarized copy of proof of English proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB)
- Copy of A-level or high school certificate
Deadline: Applications close October 1 for international applicants applying for a DAAD scholarship at the same time – intake in the following year. September 15th at partner universities: KNUST, ARU, SURP and UACh. Philippine, Ghanaian, Tanzanian and Chilean applicants must direct their applications respectively to the partner universities in Manila, Kumasi, Dar es Salaam and Valdivia for the intake in the following year.
